Kia Ora (w/o the video) - #6

Kia Ora Everyone!!!

How is everything going with all of you? We are well and enjoying the last couple weeks of the summer. Last year's summer felt a bit more toasty than this year's, so we are definitely thankful for the change. And considering that our houses turn into saunas in the summer heat here we are always thankful for a little relief.

I'm also curious whether or not it counts in New Zealand....the whole "in like a lion, out like a lamb" saying regarding March. Because, If so, April may not be a pleasant month with how tame March has been. I hope it doesn't apply to ministry either!

Speaking of....

February saw our 2010 kick-off to both the Ice Box and Parents' Night Out. Being the short month that it is (no offense to February) it is really amazing that we made it through alive. So much planning, so many activities.....in so little time. By the way, have you ever met someone named February?

2 years already!!!

Last Friday was the two year anniversary of the day we moved to New Zealand. On March 5th 2008, Mo and I along with the Cherry’s stepped off the plane into Auckland International Airport. It was way too early in the morning but that’s another story. Since then it’s been an awesome rollercoaster ride. I like the parts where I’m hanging upside down.

New Zealand has been such a great place to start our life in ministry. As we’ve said before the people here are great, straight forward and honest. The past two years have been focused on plowing the grounds in the community, getting to know people and showing them Christ in our everyday actions and speech. This third year is going to be just as exciting with new lessons to learn and hills to climb.

Relay for Life

We recently attended our first Relay for Life Event. It was held here in Auckland and we participated as part of a team from here in West Auckland. We were invited to join a team already forming called the Wild West Sheriffs (since the whole team was made of westies). This past year we've known a few people that have been recently effected heavily by cancer and felt compelled to join the cause on their behalf.

We had never attended an event like this before and didn't know what to expect, but it ended up being quite fun. We met heaps of new people that ended up being on our team and the event had lots of fun entertainment. Our team even got second place for out team theme. I think it's because we took our costumes so serious. (Besides it can't hurt to have a couple people from Texas on your team if you're rocking a cowboy theme.)

Missed Package.

During the Ice Box Morgan needed to come back to the house to pick something up. When she came to the front door she notice a piece of paper stuck to the door. It was from the post man stating that we missed a package delivery. It was from a different courier than the one we were expecting a package from so it got us a little curious. Later that evening after the days events we were doing our normal online stuff, you know emails, bills, facebook ect. when Morgan thought to check our visa status'. To our surprise it said we were approved, it had been less than two weeks since we sent them in. So the next day after a meeting I headed to the couriers office in hopes to find our visas, and sure enough they were there. We are approved for another year a missionaries in New Zealand!!!

Kia Ora (w/o the video) - #5

Kia Ora!

Life and ministry in Auckland have been slowly picking up speed over the last couple of weeks and now we're in full stride. It is really an exciting time of year, because everything spinning around in our heads over the summer, everything we've evaluated and improved upon from the prior year, finally gets to see the light of day. Since New Zealand tends to shut down, or enter stand-by mode, during the summer it is usually best to wait until February before expending much organized ministry effort. Many congregations here apply the same principle, hibernating all but the most basic and broad ministries until after the summer holidays and travelings cease.

As I mentioned in our last Kia Ora update, we dedicated our final week of the summer holiday to meeting together as a team for a Mission Retreat. Not only did this help us to refocus and revision our missional energies for the work ahead, but it also served to reunify our hearts and minds for the mission.

Skelton Romania Update

Greetings Brothers and Sisters in Christ!

It is a joy to share with you all the different ways God has been blessing the work in Sibiu, Romania. We are all very grateful for the prayers, letters of encouragement, care packages, and support you have extended to my family and the ongoing work that is taking place. Here is an overview of what took place in 2009 and what has transpired so far in 2010:

APRIL 2009
We worked on sound proofing several of our portable cubicle walls.

Hosted Ryan Bungee for several weeks as he considered coming to work with us here in Sibiu. It was a joy working with him and I appreciated his help. Ryan decided to join classmates he went to school with at Sunset who are preparing to go to another mission field. We wish him all the best.

Short trip to the states to attend Grandfather's funeral.

Preached my first funeral in Romania. Longtime member Violetta Fekete passed from this life leaving a legacy of service. I am thankful for the opportunity to have known her and be apart of her life.

March Update - Lee Skelton

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,

We want to thank everyone for their prayers as we traveled back to Romania.  To hear more about our journey visit my wife's blog at www.skeltonfamilyadventures.blogspot.com

The adjustment of setting our internal clocks forward eight hours to Romania time is almost complete.  We are back in the full swing of things once more.

One of the reasons for this update is to share with you how God is blessing the work in Sibiu.  We have emphasized the importance of the members getting involved in the Lord's work.  This has become evident during our absence when we were in the states.  Ana Maria was baptized into Christ on Sunday, February 15th.  This Junior university student has been in our thoughts and prayers for some time now.  Please pray for her as she continues to grow in the knowledge and grace of our Lord.  Pray that her faith be strengthened and that the Church can be a source of encouragement as she begins her walk with the Lord.  In addition to the baptism the members have been doing some visitation, planning an upcoming lock-in, as well as continuing to meet for worship.
