Recovering Legalists

I've heard the phrase a few times here lately about being a recovering legalist. I have to smile a bit when I hear this because I know that is what I am. Can you imagine in the same way that AA and other types of recovery meetings take place that one would be held for recovering legalists.

Prayer Request from Billy Moore

Hello everyone, hope all are having a good day. Please share with us your prayer requests as well.

My continued recovery. This past year has been the toughest of my life but also the most rewarding. God is teaching me so much and it is such a joy to be in Christ Jesus.

The church in Lazaro Cardenas. God has given us several families that are eager for relationship with God through Jesus Christ and His Spirit. We have several who have not yet made their decision to put Jesus on in baptism.

Our work in Playa Azul. We want to begin a small group in our home soon. Please pray that our friends here will participate.

Belinda and I celebrated our 36th wedding anniversary yesterday. Our small group in Malcom's home planned a surprise party for us. We were deeply touched especially for the prayers that were given for us.

Please pray for the music workshop in Morelia this month. It will be a great time of fellowship with other churches and learning of new songs.

Please pray for our little grandson Noah and his problem with his eyes. For further details please check Jacob and Amanda's google blog at www.chilangohenderson.blogspot.com

Haynes Family Newsletter

April 10, 2008

Dear Family & Friends,

What a blessing it to serve our great God in training young men and women in harvesting souls for God’s glory! I’m so pleased to bring you up to date on the work that your partnership makes possible.

January

I had the opportunity to plan the theme and the speakers for the month. Most of you know how I love looking at characters in the Bible that encourage us in our faith and our walk. That’s exactly what we did in our chapel services each morning.

Sunset’s Annual Combination Workshop was held with some 225 people coming from all over the nation. We had tracks for ministry, missions, Satellite School training, and women. I was on this year’s steering committee and emceed a couple of the evening sessions.

I was also able to hold a one-day gospel meeting in Petersburg, Texas where a dear friend, Owen Carr, preaches. That was so encouraging since Dani and I have known several of the members there for more than 20 years. Some, who were children then, now have children of their own.

Apparently God saw things differently...

We looked at the work that is piling up … the Special visiting teachers from Texas … the Partners that we thought were about to come on board … and we just planned to jump.

Philippines Report - Sunset in the Philippines

I was blessed to be able to travel to and teach in our four schools in the Philippines. Charles Smith, the founder and administrator of the schools, has done a fantastic job of instilling a heart for evangelism and church planting in the minds of our co-workers and students in the Philippines. This spirit was a great blessing and something that every SIBI school should embrace. I am so thankful to those who support our family and ministry training schools like these for allowing us to participate in such efforts.

Family, congregation shocked by preacher’s death

Roy McLaurin Jr. was also active in volunteer work

Tragedy touched the lives of a local family and church congregation with the death of 74-year-old Roy Gilbert McLaurin Jr. of Victoria.

A preacher at Central Church of Christ in Victoria for 19 years, McLaurin died Saturday afternoon in a farm equipment malfunction on Saturday, said his brother Gary McLaurin, 60, of Victoria. “Everybody was shocked; he was really loved by a lot of people,” he said.

Elders at McLaurin’s church paid homage to him at the worship service on Sunday, said 55-year-old Nancy Schmidt of Victoria, McLaurin’s daughter.

“Because he meant so much to all of them, they all took turns saying something about my dad,” she said. “It was almost like a funeral with the beautiful things they had to say. It was a celebration service.”

March 1st.... Launch Date

We all knew we’d have to pull the trigger some time. It made more sense to set a date with all the funds in place. But … where would the faith be in that?

The reason for setting a date is simple … The work isn’t getting easier or getting done. My co-worker, Ted Paull is still buried in the work. He has so much on his plate and my efforts along side of him might … possibly make a dent in the work there is to do.
