La Libertad Church and their fellowship time
If we could imagine hearing this: "God bless you, Simon, son of Jonah! You didn't get that answer out of books or from teachers. My Father in heaven, God himself, let you in on this secret of who I really am. And now I'm going to tell you who you are, really are. You are Peter, a rock. This is the rock on which I will put together my church, a church so expansive with energy that not even the gates of hell will be able to keep it out"

Weeks have passed and the first month of the year is gone. Ministry has not been a routine for some time now. It is remarkable to realize that in God's kingdom we are moving forward every day to loving people, serving people, and to fight a broken world. In the summer of 2003 we started the process of moving to Leon. And since we started thinking and praying for Leon our prayers were very specific. And God answered every one of those prayers as he saw best. Today we praise His name for the work AIMers, missionaries, churches, and friends have done to achieve what we have now. See it is more than just baptizing people. (Although that is very necessary!) What we mean is that we are commanded to follow "and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." It is this part of the great commission where many missionaries have lacked commitment. Our trust in Jesus' words to build his church is key here.

Another great Week! Since our last post, we have had more time to finish the Aim boy's apartment. This Sunday was their last sunday with the Leon Sur congregation. They still have one week in Mexico before they head out to the states.

"Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed."

God’s power has broken in on our world. God’s presence is once again in the midst of human beings. God’s new creation has been inaugurated and will one day be consummated in all of its glory.
All of these realities find expression in and are confirmed by the resurrection and enthronement of our man, Jesus.
Jesus was raised from death. He was not merely resuscitated–brought back to mortality, only to die again. He transcends mortality, he has vanquished death, he has removed sin, he has gone before us into God’s new world as the first-fruit of many more to come. He restores all that was lost in the fall of humanity.

Christianity had a humble beginning indeed: from 12 to 120 to thousands upon thousands. And now? The largest religion in the world.
But when we take a close look at its beginning we ask, “How did it even get off the ground?” And when we look at its internal problems we ask, “How has it survived and flourished for 2000 years?”
Resurrection power, that’s how. The power of God that was not expected has been unleashed. And it changes everything.

Our week end was filled with much blessings, and also great challenges. Worship was about seventy people. And Ben Baker started the new lessons from the Gospel according to John for the semester. He did a good job in presenting Jesus to the church as the writer intended to compose. Most of the church is beginning to realize that 2012 will be a blessed year.

We praise God for a good beginning of 2012. This week we took some time to re-dream with people and share a new vision from the church. We worked on some ideas for events, seminars, classes, and work. It was presented to the church and soon the elders will finalize the calendar for the year. It is not easy to come back to the grindstone after two weeks of fellowship, food and relaxation, not to mention very cold weather (for Mexico). We were encouraged by a good worship and blessed to have a very good Sunday praising and worshiping our God. We had new visitors and a great start.

One Sunday about three weeks ago we were sitting around the table with some of our closest friends from church (Zalaquett, Hasbun, Rodriguez and Lerma). We began to share about our trip to Colombia and how good it was for us to have gone. From there somehow we got on the subject that almost all the wives around the table had been on women’s retreats in Cancun, Mexico and Costa Rica, while the men had not had the same opportunity. Therefore the men began to claim their right to travel and then the wives conceded that they could go to Mendoza, Argentina. Even though the men realized that the trip was not quite the same as going to a five-star hotel in the Caribbean, it was a trip. They better take advantage now because it might be a long time before it happened again.
