Yet Another Ministry Training School!

It is amazing to see what God is doing in our Sunset International Schools! There is no way that we could have dreamed or imagined how many nations and peoples of the world we would affect or how many lives would be affected by the gospel of Christ through these schools.  The school in Thailand (pictured here) is a school that we value highly.  They are making a great difference for Christ in Thailand, Laos and other surrounding countries.  What a blessing to see this work continue to grow and develop under God's mighty hand!  I hope that you will spread the word.  I would be excited to come and talk about the growth of the kingdom through schools like these in your congregation.  Just set up an appointment and I will come and present the good news we have to share today!  Aren't we all ready for some good news?

John and Rosemary Perkins

John and Rosemary Perkins, formerly of Fort Worth, have moved to Lubbock and will be working with the SIBI International Division.  John will be serving as the Administrative Consultant to the Dean of International Studies and Vice President for Institute Advancement at Sunset. As Sunset begins offering degrees to the graduates of qualifying international schools, the SIBI administration sought someone with the administrative and organizational skills to assist in developing and implementing a degree plan for international ministry training schools.  Sunset has been given permission by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to offer BBS and MBS degrees in Biblical Studies (for a full explanantion regarding these degrees, please refer to the www.sibi.cc website). John will assist Sunset in offering these degrees to qualified individuals around the globe.

Holiday Greetings and Job Transition

I want to wish a Happy Holidays to all of you.  For those who speak a different language, I hope that you can find the appropriate message in the picture to the left.  This has been an incredible year, and I thank God for His blessings and divine providence and for blessing me with you.  You are a special gift from God and I am grateful.

The Glamour of Mission Work

Truman Scott, pictured here teaching our faculty and staff at a SIBI retreat, has one of the great mission hearts of our generation. While not able to travel as he would like, from his computer he keeps in contact with the world and his leadership and expertise still affect the nations today. As my "forefather" in the International Division, Truman is precious to me and has provided the foundation for any of the good works God has done through my hands. More than that, Truman is a great scholar, author and thinker. He wrote a bulletin article and I thought it would be great to share it with all of you.  He has entitled the article, "The Glamour of Mission Work".

SIBI Retreat

What an incredible thing it is to gather with the faculty and staff of Sunset and spend time praying, singing and being inspired! It's hard to believe that another year of classes is beginning and tomorrow we will be gathering for chapel and getting back in the flow of ministry training. I am so blessed to work with the greatest group of men and women imaginable.

There were about a dozen or so of our SIBI International Division personnel there as well as those from the Residential and External Studies Divisions.  We had a myriad of meetings, but the most amazing thing was the fellowship and devotion. I have included a picture of the group gathered to sing and spend time reflecting on the things of God. It just doesn't get much better than that!

What We Are About At SIBI International

I was asked an interesting question on Sunday morning. I was asked what my job really was at Sunset. I answered that I am a missionary, the Dean of the International Studies Division and an instructor in AIM and Advanced Missions. He asked me, "Okay but what does that mean? What does this SIBI International do?" I told him about the 57 schools in 37 countries and what the schools were like, but this isn't what he wanted. We talked about the conversions, the congregations planted and preachers trained, but this still wasn't what he had in mind. He wanted a mission statement of sorts, and I thought it was a reasonable request. I have never been comfortable with using human words to describe a spiritual work, so I will let the Holy Spirit put our mission statement forth through the writings of the Psalmist.
