Cape Town Newsletter

Submitted by Sunset Alumni on Fri, 05/07/2010 - 18:09

Dear Partners of the Gospel;
King David penned these wonderful words for us in Psalm 37:1-3). "Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass". As Christians, brethren we have nothing to fear, nothing to be envious about. As long as we continue to trust in the Lord, and live out that trust through obedience, all will be well with and for us. Marvellous words of encouragement as we face the struggles and hardships of life. Remember that Jesus said; "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell" (Matt. 10:28).

Children's Program 2009 - Sopot, Poland

Submitted by Sunset Alumni on Mon, 07/06/2009 - 18:54

The Sopot Children's English Bible classes are well underway with Annabelle and Bo Fryar running full speed keeping up with about twenty-five kids from four to ten years old five days a week.  This year's theme is the Life of Christ and last week's lesson was on the Baptism of Jesus by John the Baptizer.

To make the lesson more "interactive" the children were given locust and wild honey to eat.  We had them crawling all over our kitchen for a couple of days.

Molly, Miss Bo and Annabelle formed them from a Christmas gingerbread recipe, baked the separate body parts then stuck them together with powdered sugar "glue".  Antennae were made with toothpicks.

They hid the locust around the classroom like Easter eggs and told the kids they had to find and "catch" their supper. It took them about ten seconds to find all the locust and go the tables to dip them in the honey.  I'm sure these youngsters will never forget what John the Baptist ate in the dessert!

Memorial: Lon Mohundro, '76

Submitted by Sunset Alumni on Thu, 04/23/2009 - 21:38

A valiant warrior for the Lord has won the battle!  Lon Mohundro went to sleep in his recliner and awoke in the arms of Jesus April 11, 2009.  He had served the Lord as a minister to churches in the Northeast, specifically PA and NJ, for 27 years after graduating from Sunset in 1976.  He retired from fulltime work in 2003, but continued to serve the Lord to the end of his life in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Polish Mission - Two Days in April

Submitted by Sunset Alumni on Tue, 04/21/2009 - 19:10

Though we study with individuals year round, we have just begun our spring classes with “imported” teachers from the states.  This week, two ladies, Gail Tomlinson and Ethelwyn Langston,  one from Mississippi and one from Alabama, arrived to help us with the large number of students who want to study the Bible in English.

We thought it might be interesting to you to know something about the people with whom YOU are studying the Bible through US, for indeed, were it not for you who are supporting and praying for us, we could not do this great work.

During the first two days of classes we taught twenty-four hours of lessons.  Students ranged in age from 14 to 69 years-old and in education from a middle-school student to a doctor’s degree – in fact, we had two doctors.

Several are high school or university students and others are a librarian, a kindergarten teacher, an English teacher, a businessman (owner of several cell phone outlets), a jazz pianist, a film maker/website designer, sales person in an optician’s office, a housewife and a captain in the Polish Coast Guard.
