Wednesday Morning Report from Athens

Greetings in the Lord,
I know I haven’t been very prompt in getting my Wednesday morning reports to you this year. Sorry about that. No excuses. Know that in spite of where life has been taking us, we constantly keep you all in our thoughts and prayers.
I always think that things might slow down this last term just after graduation and just before summer break. And then I’m always surprised. What a great week this has been.
Yohannes Woldearegaye, our Ethiopian student, approached me this week and wanted to sit down and have a serious talk. You guessed it. He wants to be baptized for the remission of his sins. He was worried that I might have a problem with that. When I told him I was delighted that he had made this decision, he was beside himself with excitement. He has decided that we will do his baptism this coming Monday at the school.
Report of Third Week in Athens from Bob Jackson
Posted May 28th, 2009 by Sunset Alumni
Dear Friends and Family,
We have completed three weeks of our month long teaching tour in Athens. The weather has changed from cool (heater weather) to very warm (fan weather) at night. It has been a gradual change rather than the radical temperature swings we were experiencing in Lubbock when we left.
A week ago on Saturday we witnessed the addition of a new sister, Carolyne Musibi, to the body of Christ. Carolyne is 24 years old and is from Nigeria. One of our former students, Marie Georgiopoulou, taught her the gospel. The very next day, Carolyne brought her sister and niece with her to AIBI classes and the worship assembly. They have all three attended faithfully since.
The Extraordinary and Ordinary Acropolis and the Apostle Paul

I will be writing a blog or two on our ministry training school in Athens, but first I wanted to share an image of the Acropolis which towers above the city of Athens. While walking around the Acropolis, the Agora (market place), Mar's Hill, ancient Corinth, etc., you get a real feel for what life would have been like during the days of Jesus, Peter and Paul. It's absolutely amazing. As you stand at the Acropolis, looking down on other temples, Mar's Hill and the Agora, you can't help but think about how impressive all of this would have been during the time when Paul spoke to the people of Athens about God, Christ and the reality of the resurrection. What a blessing to have a opportunity to walk in his footsteps! It's extraordinary!

Greece Report 4
Posted October 7th, 2008 by Sunset AlumniJohn did a powerful job Sunday evening of expounding to the audience on the necessity of the Cross affecting lives. He left no doubts that the Cross was essential to our becoming a Christian and essential to our continuing life. All were complimentary of his lesson with all his students wanting the outline. For some in the audience this may have been the renewal of them looking seriously at their relationship with Jesus. For some it may have moved them closer to making the decision of committing their life beginning with baptism. We had hoped to study with Julia’s husband this week, but she is sick and we were not able to go over to their house. Satan has a way of interfering.
Greece Report 3
Posted September 26th, 2008 by Sunset AlumniWe are continuing to have rain which brings welcome relief from the heat. Traveling to services yesterday evening was very nice with a crisp breeze.
Last week, after getting off the subway, I remembered that the street on which to turn right was just to the end of the American Embassy. There are 2 buildings next to each other, one the Opera house or musical hall and the other the embassy. I had forgotten about the music hall so at the end of the large building I turned right and wandered around for about 15 minutes trying to find the street at which I was to turn left. Nothing looked familiar, so I thought well at least I know how to get back home. When I got to the main street, I saw another building and realized I had turned on the wrong street, and as I turned on the right one, I saw John coming to find me.
