THE MOVE

I do not know if I can adequately describe the experience of what a missionary goes through when he leaves for the mission field.  I will try my best to explain.  Take a moment and look around where you live.  Imagine that you have to give, sell, or throw away almost everything you have.  Could you do it?  My family gave one car that we had to a struggling Sunset student and his family, our van we gave to our overseeing congregation which is trying to sell it so we can raise funds for the purchase of a small vehicle here in Sibiu. We gave many of our most precious items away to friends and family all over the United States.  With lumps in our throats the trash man hauled off a lifetime of memories attached to some child's drawing, a note of encouragement, or a card that simply said, "I love you Daddy."  The children had to say goodbye to their toys, their friends, everything that they knew.  We saw three trucks and a trailer travel to the Goodwill store with everything that did not sell in the garage sale for pennies on the dollar.  A lifetime, gone.  How could we do it? Well, how does any missionary do it?  Do you remember what Peter said and Jesus reply?  "Peter said to him, "We have left all we had to follow you!"  "I tell you the truth," Jesus said to them, "no one who has left home or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God will fail to receive many times as much in this age and, in the age to come, eternal life."  - Luke 18:29-30  All the "stuff" we left behind pales in comparison to what we have in Jesus Christ.  I humbly ask for your prayers as we start over here in Sibiu, Romania.  May God be glorified through the work that is undertaken to reach the lost!

THANK YOU

We are very grateful to all our friends and supporters who helped us in this move. We wish to thank the members of the South Plains Church of Christ in Lubbock, Texas for helping us load, sell, save, fix, throw away, clean.....everything that had to do with the house and our "stuff".  Stephanie and I do not know what we would have done without you.  To the congregations in Beaver, Oklahoma, Penalosa  Kansas, and Ovilla, Texas thank you for sending funds to offset this expensive move for which we are in your debt for keeping us out of extensive debt.  To our supporters who have patiently provided the means for my families needs throughout our ministry here in Romania we would not be here if it were not for you. To our family thank you for your words of encouragement and support.  I know I have left someone out but realize what my brain fails to remember the Lord will never forget!  Thank you for what you have done in aiding this ongoing work.

WORLD ENGLISH INSTITUTE CAMPAIGN BEGINS

What an exciting time to be involved in the work of Sibiu.  We now have a sign outside our building advertising our campaign.  It includes a web address where people can go and do the studies on-line if they are not available to come to our building during the campaign.  We are expecting a lot of studies resulting from this sign since our church building has a bus stop right out front with a medium amount of traffic going by our building each day.  It has truly been a blessing having Tom Langley from WEI with us this week as he guides us through this evangelistic campaign.  We had an initial meeting in the auditorium with many of our students who will be starting classes this week.  We did not have enough teachers from the states commit to this first of what we hope will be many campaigns in years to come.  Instead of having one on one studies the first two weeks we have three students per study hour scheduled.  In the last two weeks of this campaign we are grateful that we will have three teachers from the states coming to help us alleviate this problem.

THE FAMILY, NEW BEGINNINGS

I spent the last three months in Romania alone engaged in the work and preparing for my family's arrival to Sibiu.  I can honestly say it finally feels like home with them here.  The girls are still trying to adjust to the time change (If my five year old Elizabeth stays up until 1:00 am due to jet lag one more time I may just cry!).  During the short time I was in the states the thirty year old American washing machine here in Sibiu broke.  We cannot find parts for it here and are having replacement parts coming with an American who will be in Sibiu in two weeks. We have been hand washing clothes which is very tedious.  Everyone at Church has been very welcoming to my family. I hope our presence here will breathe new life and hope into the congregation.  Stephanie has been busy preparing menus on what she will cook while the campaigns are going on as well as getting the building ready.  She is also working on children's bible class materials.  The girls have been busy helping Stephanie and working on learning not only the Romanian language but German as well.  It is a big adjustment starting over and we ask for your continued prayers and God's blessings in what we are endeavoring to do for Him.

WAYS YOU CAN HELP

Our overseeing congregation has set up a fund for the purchase of a small car.  This will allow me to travel to area villages to teach with the Romanian Bible Academy.  It will give me the opportunity to train future Gospel preachers who cannot afford to come to Sibiu for training.  It would also be a great blessing in helping my family take care of the day to day responsibilities around town.  If you can give in this effort please send your contributions to the address listed below to the Ovilla congregation with a notation in the memo section that says,  "Skelton- Romanian Car."  We still need to raise $8,000.00 for this purchase.  My family is seeking congregations or individuals to partner with us in the Lord's work.  One of our key supporters has informed us that they will be involved in a building program and will be unable to help financially at the current level.   If you would like more information please email us.  In addition to email you may send communication to us through our overseeing congregation, the Ovilla Church of Christ at:
