Dear ones,

I'm writing this with a heavy heart.  Bryan is in the hospital and not doing well.  We hope to bring him home Wednesday morning and will have hospice care to help manage his pain and keep him at home.  The cancer has spread throughout his abdominal area and lungs and is causing intense pain and nausea.  He is no longer able to take in any nutrition.  Thank you all for the love and support you've given over the past year.  Next week will be one year since we began this battle.  Please keep us in your prayers as we surround Bryan with love and keep him comfortable.  God bless you all.  Good night.

Love and hugs, Debby

Well, we're enjoying the cool mornings and the 'little bit' cooler days.  I can't believe it's already September.  Time is passing so quickly and Bryan and I have learned how precious time with loved ones is.  Enjoy every minute of every day and don't forget to hug the ones you love and remember the ones that need love!

Since I last wrote we have been in and out of the Cancer Center.  They almost put him back in the hospital yesterday.  The extreme pain is back and we found out yesterday that the gall bladder that was removed last week was full of cancer.  So the cancer has spread from the liver and the tumors are causing the pain in the back and abdominal area.  All we can do at this point is get aggressive with the chemo treatments.  The surgeon has given the go ahead to start the chemo again.  And we have to deal with pain management.  A painful and stressed body has a hard time healing.  His GI tract is also slow to work again, due to the heavy narcotics he's taking for pain.

Please keep praying and thanks for all the wonderful support and love.  You guys are amazing friends and family.  Have a great week and safe holiday weekend.  We love you!  I'll keep you posted on any changes.

Hugs, Debby

Bryan is home again!  It's been so good for him to be back in his own bed.  He is very sore and still having some trouble but we're hoping to have a day of rest today.  His family from Texas left last night after a good visit.  Stephanie and Hailey arrived in Texas safely yesterday and will enjoy seeing Kyle for the Labor day weekend.  It's quiet in our house now.  Hope you all have a wonderful week.

Love and hugs, Debby

Bryan is coming home tomorrow after breakfast!  He will be on a soft food, low fat diet and is very sore but he's keeping food down and the intense pain is gone.  He is just sore from the incisions.  It will take a couple of weeks of taking it slow but should be back on schedule in 10 days or so.  Back to chemo treatments in 2 weeks and is anxious to get back in the office, teaching and preaching.

It'll be so good to have him home again!  Thank you for your prayers.

Hugs, Debby

It has been a very long day.  Bryan had surgery tonight as I waited with so many good friends!  God answered our prayers!  The gall bladder was very infected but the surgeon was able to remove it laparoscopically so the healing will be quick (7-10 days).  He will be able to start eating soft foods tomorrow and possibly go home by Thursday.  They moved him to another room, 414 bed 2 but he doesn't have a room mate so it's still a private room.  The doctor was very pleased.  Praise God!  Bryan is feeling pretty rough but should feel better soon.  Thank you all for your prayers, support and love.  We need you all!  Good night...Debby

Good afternoon!  We met with the oncology surgeon today and they scheduled him for surgery tomorrow at 7pm.  They're removing his gall bladder.  They hope to do it with just 4 little holes and he will heal in 7-10 days.  Then he can get back to his chemo schedule.  He's already missed 2 and will miss 2 more chemo treatments.  But with all the pain this has caused, the chemo wasn't able to work anyway.  The big risk is that the gall bladder is so close to the liver where the cancer is growing.  He is starving.  No food or water since Thursday.  He's been getting hydration and meds thru his mediport so he's ready to taste something.  Poor guy!  Let's pray his surgery will go well and he'll be back on his feet (and preaching/teaching) again soon!  Love, Debby

It has been a long day and week.  Bryan is feeling really crummy.  The surgeon today had consulted with a tumor specialist and he has agreed to take Bryan's case.  We'll see him on Monday.  They said the gall bladder has most likely been diseased for a while.  It is in bad shape and without the complication of the cancer in the liver they would just remove it.  But they want to avoid surgery.  So we'll treat it with meds.  Strong antibiotics and hope we can shut down the gall bladder.  That also means no food or drink by mouth.  Only fluids by IV.  So we wait for more information on Monday.

Thanks for all the love and prayers.  We can only hope for better days and news next week.  Have a great weekend.
Love, Debby

Just a quick overview of what has been happening with Bryan over the last two days in the hospital.  He has been sleeping most of the time since they are giving him some strong pain meds to keep him comfortable.  They ran a test on his gall bladder and found it very swollen and infected and it has a blockage.  They couldn't tell what's causing the blockage, hoping it's a gall stone.  That explains the intense pain and vomiting.  The surgeon spoke with us today and wants to avoid surgery if at all possible.  He ordered a CT scan and we'll get the results tomorrow morning.  Looks like we'll be in the hospital through the weekend but it's better if they can keep him painfree.

Thanks to all the friends who have been calling and sitting with me and Bryan.  This is a tough place to be.  We're really praying for some good news.  God is at work even when we don't understand.  We just take it one day at a time and pray...and trust.  We ask that God use our story to touch lives and bring another person closer to Him.

Good night.

Bryan was admitted to St Agnes Hospital in Fresno today.  He is in room 363.  If you get a chance, I'm sure he'd love to hear from you.  (He is registered under the name "Jack Bryan Shelley" in case they say they don't have a Bryan Shelley.)
Thanks to everyone who came by and called tonight.  Hope you all have a good night.
Love, Debby

Debby - how are things going? MY folks called today and mentioned something about hospice. How is Bryan? How are you and Hunter holding up? We care very much and hold you in prayer for God's will to be done. Please ask for whatever we can do to physically support your needs at this time. Melanie 559 285 3183 pedrph@sbcglobal.net
